What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is for everyone. Young and old, fit and unfit, skinny and not so skinny.
Training with genuine people who have the same priorities as you do, who want you to succeed and will help you do so.
A Way of Life
Learning to take care of your body: moving correctly, using your core, eating properly, getting fit, working out.
Exercising regularly and eating correctly results in a person who handles stress better, is more immune to disease and is more positive.
Mental Fortitude
Being challenged physically helps us become strong mentally.

Lifestyle Challenges

Sometimes we all need a kick in the ass. A deadline....or some pressure....or some form of accountability.

Enter our three 9 Week Sledgehammer CrossFit Lifestyle Challenges.

9 weeks is long enough to see a drastic difference in appearance, but short enough to be manageable. Enough pressure to provide motivation, but with a clear deadline. More importantly though, it is just long enough to help you lay the foundation for a new lifestyle, founded on health and easily maintained once you get the hang of it.

No Physical Classes Presently

Hi Guys

As many of you already know, the Jukskei Park Shopping Centre where we were situated has been sold and all the tenants asked to leave.

We were given 30 days to find new premises and so as of Saturday 31 October we are no longer operating from there.

Unfortunately, to date, we have been unable to find somewhere suitable to operate from and are therefore reverting to online classes until such a time as we find a new place to move into and settle into our happy, safe space again.

Please contact us if you would like more information.

You have always been supportive and caring, and more recently become a true inspiration to me! I can't think of words great enough to describe how thankful and appreciative I am to have a genuine soul like you in my life!

Niki Peach

Thank you Craig for pushing me a little harder, awesome chats and lots of laughs, sharing your knowledge and for your patience with my crazy family.

Lara Levy

Good friends are like stars. You don't always see them, but you know they are always there. Thank you for making my workouts heavier. Thank you for welcoming me into the Sledgehammer Family.

Viviane Fuller

Thanks for the awesome year Craig. Although you have an obsession with burpees, your passion for helping others has made a big impact on my life this year. Wouldn't have been the same without you as coach!

Joel Annett

Thank you for introducing CrossFit to me. Loved every minute of it from day 1. Thank you too for the odd muscle smashing massage here and there. Always a pleasure to hit a workout at Sledgehammer. Appreciate it that you always 'have our back!'

Roger Everit

Thank you for always motivating us and inspiring us to achieve our best selves. CrossFit and your training has really changed every aspect of my life personally and professionally.

Mike Lysko

'When in doubt, squat it out!' Thank you for an incredible year. I would never have achieved my fitness goals without your constant support and burpee workouts.

Loren Solomon

Your coaching and friendship has changed my life. It isn't often that I am constantly engaged both mentally and physically the way I have been over the last 5 years at Sledgehammer. Thank you for being that dependable rock that never judges and also never relents.

Steven Hawes

Thank you so much for all you've done for me over the past year. I am the fittest and healthiest I have ever been. You made me want to vomit and cry but also made me feel so happy with my progress. When I see what my body can achieve now I am over the moon. Thanks for dealing with my whining. Sledgehammer CrossFit is my second home and I'm so happy to be part of the family.

Lara Zietsman

Thank you for helping me when I was at rock bottom and sick. Thank you for kicking my ass when I was lazy and pushing me to be the best. Thank you for going to extra lengths to help me achieve my goals and giving me extra tasks in order to achieve them. When I was down or in a bad place I knew I could pick up the phone or walk into the box and I would be in a safe place where things could be just a little bit better.

Kristen Bent

I know for sure that I'm not the only one who could hardly make it down the stairs after my first half hour in the Sledgehammer Box. That post-squat-can't-sit-can't-stand-don't-want-to-walk pain lasted almost a week. Fast forward a few months and I can hike mountains without my body complaining, deadlift my body weight and a quarter, and of course, get up a staircase without huffing and puffing. Thanks for being such an amazing coach.

Lusanda Mlilo

Thank you Craig for helping me to achieve my goals. Thank you for allowing me to bring the kids to the box. Thank you for all the chats and laughs, from diet to six packs, to the birds in the parking lot, to juice coming out my nose. Thank you for my skipping rope. Thank you for being an inspiration to us all. And most of all, thank you for making Sledgehammer CrossFit a place where I could feel safe, a place where I can forget about the stresses of the day and a place where I can just be me!

Carla Hansen

I remember consciously waiting for the hype to die around CrossFit, while I slogged away at boring gym regimes. I thought it was silly, dangerous and a phase that would soon pass. Little did I know. I decided to give CrossFit a try and my closest box Sledgehammer CrossFit. I met Craig and he was fantastic. There was no pressure to be a super athlete, there was no moving onto the next more technical exercise until the previous one was mastered. The atmosphere in the box is always great, everyone helping and smiling. I slowly got better, fitter and started to achieve goals I never thought I would.

Our Coach

Craig Bayley

Craig loves nature and being outdoors, whether working in the garden, hiking, fishing or photographing. He is passionate about training and helping others succeed.

A Fire Fighter friend repeatedly suggested that he try CrossFit, but Craig's typical response was, "No, my workout program is pretty good, I am fit enough."

Eventually in 2008, Craig decided to give it a try in preparation for a hike in the Drakensberg. "I thought I was fit until my first CrossFit WOD (workout of the day) Angie (100 pullups, 100 pushups, 100 situps, 100 squats). Boy was I wrong! Despite doing it really slowly, I saw just how much fitter I could be and I was hooked!"

And so the foundation for Sledgehammer CrossFit was formed.

Craig loves gymnastic work and deadlifting, but has had to work really hard to get his squat respectable.

Craig has an eta Certification in Fitness, is a Crossfit Level 2 Trainer, is a CrossFit Gymnastics Trainer, a CrossFit Strongman Trainer, a CrossFit Mobility Trainer as well as a CrossFit Weightlifting Trainer.

Craig doesn't tell you what to do if he hasn't done it himself.
